Once you buy a new sofa, you want to keep it in pristine condition for as long as possible. Sofas are a massive part of our everyday life and are used frequently throughout the day, so their maintenance is necessary to make them last for decades to come. Whether you need somewhere to settle down and relax after a long day at work, or you prefer to use your sofa for quality downtime with your family, regular sofa cleaning and care will upgrade your overall experience. We’ve prepared for you a simple sofa care guide, that will help you keep your sofa in a good condition for longer. Without further ado, let’s dive into the world of sofa maintenance.

When Should You Clean Your Sofa?

Sofa cleaning can be parted into three categories, regular maintenance, monthly care, and less regular maintenance. If you buy a quality sofa, like our black corner sofa, then the number of chores in each category will be limited, however, each sofa needs care to some extent.

For regular maintenance, it is essential to plump your cushions, check the condition of the sofa’s legs, vacuum and brush your sofa, and remove any stains if they appear.

Monthly care includes rotating the cushions, as well as the mattress (if you are an owner of a sofa bed), the application of a protective spray for leather sofas.

For less regular maintenance, you should use a leather conditioner and wash your sofa professionally.

How to Clean a Fabric Sofa?

To take proper care of your fabric sofa, regular but low maintenance care is recommended. Here is a short guide on how to clean a fabric sofa at home:

  1. Vacuum your sofa regularly. Hoovering is not reserved for crumbs only, sofas collect a lot of dust over time, so to ensure that your sofa is clean and hygienic, vacuuming is necessary.
  2. Brush your sofa once a week. This activity should minimize pressure marks as well as use-connected shading.
  3. Use a fabric shaver when you have fabric bobbles to remove from your sofa.
  4. Once a year, wash the fabric of your sofa. You can do it yourself or have it professionally cleaned.

Now you know how to clean your fabric sofa naturally. These are the basic maintenance tips, to remove any particular stains, you will have to look for a stronger cleaning agent to clean your sofa. Note that there are different cleaning products needed for different types of stains.

How to Clean a Leather Sofa?

Dedicating a little time to take proper care of your leather sofa will save you money in the long run and help you keep your sofa from stains and cracks. The best way to clean a sofa made out of leather is to:

  1. Dust your sofa once a week with a dry cloth to avoid dust getting into the creases.
  2. Apply a leather conditioner to your sofa to improve its appearance and make it more durable.
  3. Vacuum your sofa every few weeks with a brush attachment to get rid of dust and any loose dirt.
  4. Keep your sofa away from direct sunlight, as leather can crack easily in the sun.

Daily Sofa Maintenance Tips

Daily sofa maintenance tips are connected mainly to the sofa filling. If you are an owner of softer cushion fillings, regular plumping will be needed to keep them in shape over time. We advise you to remove your sofa cushions at the end of the day and pat them on each side. You can also drop them on a clean floor to get more air inside them. These are simple activities that will help you keep your sofa cushions in shape for longer.

If you, however, have a firmer filling in your sofa, it is good to look after your cushions as well, but you don’t have to do that on a daily basis, every few days is perfectly fine.

Final Thoughts

Taking care of your sofa is not a lot of work, yet it can help you make your sofa more hygienic and durable in the long run. Clean your sofa regularly and keep in good condition, so that you always have the perfect space for rest and relaxation at your house.
